Discussion Prompt: In his chapter “Of Mr. Booker T. Washington and Others,” Du Bois lays out a careful, measured rebuttal to Washington’s “Atlanta Compromise” as outlined in Washington’s speech, “The Atlanta Exposition Address.” Basing your comments on a careful reading of both author’s texts, weigh in on the debate between Du Bois and Washington. How convincing is Du Bois’ critique? What is your impression of each author’s respective positions?
